The United Nations Human Rights Council releases a report on the findings of the independent international commission of inquiry on the Great March of Return protest, saying that there are “reasonable grounds to believe” that Israeli forces killed and injured Palestinian civilians not “posing an imminent threat to life.” The report, covering the start of the Great March of Return on 30 March 2018 to the end of the year, finds that 183 Palestinians were killed, including 35 children, and 6106 were injured by Israeli forces using live ammunition; the commission determined that 29 of those killed were members of armed groups. The commission also finds that there are “reasonable” indications that the Israeli forces committed war crimes as part of its response to the protesters. A longer, more detailed, report will be released on 18 March.
