This chapter discusses
the methods, strategies, design and instruments to be employed in the
collection of relevant data for this research work.

3.1
RESEARCH DESIGN

Research is explained
as the designed activity to find new facts and relationships amongst scientific
variables. This study adopted the survey research design approach and it was
aimed at finding facts about current action, information and data collection. This
research work was done to discover the involvement of the social media in
breaking the culture of silence on sexual violence among women mostly in the
higher institutions and colleges. The survey will be conducted in Babcock
University, Ogun State, Nigeria.

comprises of all the female undergraduates in Babcock University which in total
are

SAMPLE SIZE

3.4
SAMPLE TECHNIQUE

The simple random
sampling technique will be adopted for this study. It will be done in such a
way that each sample in the population will have an equal opportunity of being
selected. This technique will assist the researcher in reaching the samples
with ease.

3.5
RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

In this study, a
well-structured and organized questionnaire will be used to get data and
information from the respondents of the sample size used for this project. Asemah
(2009) states that a questionnaire is a list of questions formulated to gather
information from respondents by filling in the answers in spaces provided for
the purpose. Structured questionnaires require less time to complete and are
easy to respond to.

The questionnaire used
is divided into three sections: section A which is focused on the demographic
questions and data of respondents that contains age, sex, occupation,
educational qualification and sections B and C contains close ended questions
that will measure response to know how much information and awareness is
created by the media concerning issues of sexual violence and the breaking of
the culture of silence of women.

3.6
VALIDITY OF RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The research
instruments validity, depends on the researcher playing her part in the
collection of appropriate data and selection of correct statistical methods to
compute and find solution for difficulties.

3.7
RELIABILITY OF RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The testing for
reliability of the research instrument (questionnaire), was carried out by the
researcher through the use of the retest method and then, pretested on a
smaller population. It will help in determining the questionnaires adequacy and
help to know if there will be need for adjustments.

3.8
ADMINISTRATION OF RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The research instrument
is the questionnaire and it is one of the primary sources for the information
use in this study. The questionnaires will be administered by the researcher to
the respondents in Babcock University and University of Ibadan. They will be
filled and returned to the researcher

3.9
METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS

The data collected for
this study will be analyzed using the appropriate statistical tools such as
frequency tables and percentages showing social media’s involvement in breaking
